A Ride on the Whimsy Carousel

Back again! My favourite all time film has got to be Mary Poppins-I loved it as a kid and I still love it now so imagine how much I loved the new Whimsy carousel horses when I saw them! Fast forward a few weeks and I'm proud to say that I'm now designing for Whimsy Stamps:) When I got my dt package at the weekend I just had to start a project with these beautiful horses and decided to make an actual carousel! And here it is:~

I stumbled across this tutorial here and it became the inspiration for the making of the carousel though my measurements are different. I decided to go all vintage/distressed in sepia tones so I covered each piece I built with book pages that had been distressed with Tim Holtz inks. Before actually putting everything together I decided I wanted some shimmer to the project too so I spritzed everything in Shimmerz treasured hymn then applied tons of perfect pearls in copper. The gorgeous carousel horses are coloured in sepia tones with copics.

I added Shimmerz blingz in gold glimmer to the saddles:~

I bought some gorgeous Magnolia flowers from Clare's shop in town which I thought would go perfectly. I added some extra Shimmerz to them too:)

The beads were also from Clare.

I think this project fits in perfectly with the current Simon Says challenge which is so distressed! Also going to enter at Pile it on who want to see animals as does Charisma Cardz, Sir Stampalot who have a fantasy theme, and By The Cute and Girly who has a fairytale theme this month. If you want to purchase these or other Whimsy stamps go here or if you live in the UK you can grab them at Quixotic Paperie here.

Think that really is it from me today now! Thanks so much for popping by and I really appreciate your comments, and always try to come visit you back too:)

Monochrome Christmas Gifts

Evening everyone! Yea it's Friday and Ian is actually off tomorrow to am looking forward to the weekend:) Not sure what we're doing though, possibly a mixture of packing and working on more gifts and christmas cards and we'll be taking Leo out somewhere too. What you guys upto? Is it me or did it suddenly get really cold!?! Bring on the snow!

So the project I'm showing you today is one of the gifts I've made to give for the season. This will go to my step mum I think. All the paper is dcwv La Creme stack (ohhh how I love it!).

Calendar: The calendar pages are printed from a template by CAT on SplitCoastStampers which you can find here. Saves a lot of time having a template, and then it's ready to stamp on and pretty up:) The flourish stamp which I used on the corners of the calendar pages is by Autumn leaves and all my stamping was done with Ranger Archival jet black ink (I love this stuff-it's the purest black ink I've found). For the covers of the calendar I've covered some plain chipboard in the la creme papers and used the bind it all to bind the project. The numbers are cut with the cuttlebug and I've stamped the autumn leaves flourish around a nestie frame. Oo and I added a bit of tulle in raven-it seems I am addicted to this stuff-which you can buy here. Here's a close-up of the insides:~

Photo Frame: I bought a couple of the new papermania bare basics photo frames at the NEC and thought it was high time I use them and get them ready for gifts! I separated the frame in the middle so it was easier to cover (thanks Clare if you're reading!) again with the le creme papers and then stuck the frame back together again. I stamped the front with the flourish stamp again to match the calendar, added some bling and then added a sizzix flower. The flower is layered up with silicone glue to add a bit of dimension. Here's a flower close-up:~

I'm going to enter this into a few challenges:

Stamp Something want to see glitz (I've got bling!), Whimsy Stamps want to see monochromatic, and Pile it On who want to see flowers and flourishes.

Well that's it from me, enjoy the rest of your evening! Thanks for popping by and for any comments you might leave-I really appreciate them! xxx

Quixotic Blog Hop Day!

Good afternoon everyone! Today we're having another Quixotic Blog Hop day, with each of the DT using the gorgeous Elisabeth Bell stamp for SCACD called Danni! That means there's a prize to be won! So what could you win? If you leave a comment on all the Design Teams blogs (links are further down) you will be entered to win the following:

1 Danni stamp (as used in all our creations today)
1 Bag of mixed charms
1 Bag of flat backed pearls

A winner will be drawn randomly on Wednesday 28th October at 1pm GMT.

A few pics today for my project! When I got my 2nd DT package from Elaine she sent me some of her newly arrived wooden shapes and in with the mix was this lovely large heart available here and such a bargain at 99p! When I saw it I couldn't wait to start altering it!

Here are some step by steps for the heart plaque:
  • Paint the edges with Adirondack acrilyic paint dabber in Cranberry or similar and leave to dry.
  • I used some Tim Holtz grunge shapes for the wings, I painted them in the same Cranberry colour and whilst wet spritzed some Shimmerz in Mudpie. Leave to dry until tacky.
  • Apply Tim Holtz Sepia Accents (whilst still tacky) which will give it a protective finish, with a warm tint and used in this way (wet and with the Shimmerz) also gives a light crackled appearance. Leave to dry.
  • Apply adhesive to the wooden heart and cover with paper-I used some MME which had been spritzed again with Shimmerz and inked with distress ink in frayed burlay and aged mahogany.
  • File edges of heart to neaten.
  • Wrap some tulle around the heart-I used Bazzill tulle in truffle available here.
  • Adhere grunge wings to the heart with strong adhesive.
  • Cut Danni out with a circle nesties shape and matt on brown core-dinations card.
  • Colour Danni and mount onto the plaque.
  • Add a butterfly from the brown Prima Say it In Pearls sheet
Here's the main pic of the card which matches the heart plaque. Danni is coloured with copics and Ranger Sepia Accents applied to image after the wings were painted with Shimmerz Spritz in Mudpie (combined with the Sepia Accents it applies a light crackled effect). Used more Prima Say it in Pearls . Machine stitching all around the edges of the MME papers and image. All other ingredients are from Quixotic Paperie. The layout of the card was using the fabby sketch over at A Spoonful of Sugar. Since I've also used Danni I think I fit the criteria over at Flutterby Wednesday too.

Here's some close-ups:~

Flower details:~
So here's the links of the other DT members that you need to visit and leave comments with, I haven't seen their projects yet so am off to visit them myself! No doubt they will have created fabulous creations though-they always do!

Rosette (Guest DT)

Good luck! Thanks so much for stopping by today! xxx
